Recall of batteries have not impacted sales: Nokia

Nokia, the world's biggest maker of mobile handsets, today said the recall of batteries made by Matsushita Electric Industrial Ltd did not have any negative impact on sales. "It is business as usual," D Shivakumar, Vice-President and Managing Director (mobile phones) of Nokia, said. The company had last week recalled the BL-5C batteries after receiving complaints the batteries were overheating. Nokia had received about 60 million enquiries for replacing the batteries, of which only 5 per cent needed to be replaced, a company official said. The company would be replacing about three lakh BL-5C batteries in the country, the official said. Each battery, on an average, costs about Rs 750.
